Frame It Right – Sunglasses

Oh Summer, how I love you. My eyes burn from trying to look outside in the harsh Australian Sun, my skin burns from even trying to enjoy the glorious sunshine that you force upon me. Although you may or may not have the luxury to take refuge in some air-conditioning, let’s face it. You’ll have to go outside and face the cruel sunlit world.

It’s sometimes a struggle to find the right frames to suit your face and show off your personal style. So here are a few tips for you on what type of frames you would suit. Of course, I’m not saying there’s a  right or wrong way to pick your glasses/sunglasses but here are a few tips to achieve some desired effects.

Square Face – wider than they are tall, strong sculpted jaw
Think Rihanna or Angelina Jolie, yes you lucky devil. Try out curvy shapes such as round or cat-eye frames to give your face an added level of definition, bringing some balance and to soften the sharpness of your amazing jaw and make your face look a little longer. Try avoid sharp, geometric shapes that will leave your face uneven.

Oval Face – narrow forehead, high cheekbones and a narrow chin
You have the Anne Hathaway or Jessica Alba of faces. Well you really can wear any shapes, but feel free to wear softly angular frames to play up your face, and emphasise your cheekbones to make the jaw look slimmer and more angular. My personal favourite frame to wear are aviators… but you know, it’s up to you!

Round Face – Full cheekbones, narrow forehead and jaw
Oh Mila Kunis, Emma Stone, how I adore your adorable faces. Go for something wider but still fairly narrow, and rectangular to elongate your face, leaving it looking longer and slimmer. On the other hand, don’t look out for round frames or coloured lenses that will just exaggerate the fullness of your face.

Heart Face – Full forehead, narrow and strong jaw
So think Scarlett Johannson and J-Lo. Typically you’d want to avoid styles that emphasise the upper half and seem bulky. Go for something streamlined like a nice cat eye or something rounder to emphasise your lovely cheekbones and defined jaw. Wearing overly embellished sunglasses or something sharper can really make you look top heavy.

Once again, you’re free to wear whatever you want. I’m not saying there are rules to fashion or wanting to look however you want to. Go bold, wear sunglasses with pink flamingos on them if you want to (actually that sounds pretty dope…)

Till next time! x
